Day of Prayer 22nd September 2014

Parish of the Itchen Valley

 Day of Prayer

for the parish and our new rector

 Monday 22nd September

‘Again, truly I tell you, if two of you agree on earth about anything you ask, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.’  (Matthew 18.19-20)

Praying is the most important thing we can do during the vacancy. With the interviews for our new rector happening on 24th-25th September, we are holding a special day of prayer to thank God for his faithfulness to us during the vacancy and to pray for the appointment process. It is good to pray for these things in our private prayer times but also to join with others to pray.

How can you take part?

  • Commit to pray on the hour throughout the day – pray as God leads you or you might like to use the prayer below
  • Arrange to meet with some friends to pray or pray with your family
  • Join with others at midday prayers at St Mary’s, Avington
  • Come to Compline in St Swithun’s, Martyr Worthy at 8pm

What can you pray for?

  • Give thanks for God’s faithfulness to us as we wait for our new rector
  • Give thanks for all those who are working hard to keep our church life going
  • Pray for the candidates and their families
  • Pray for the interview panel: may God’s will be very clear
  • Pray for the appointment process: may God be glorified in it

A prayer for the day

Loving heavenly Father, thank you for your faithfulness to your church in the Itchen Valley. Thank you for all those who work so hard to serve you by serving us. We pray for the appointment process for our new rector, asking that you would govern the hearts and minds of all involved. Speak clearly through your Holy Spirit so that your will may be done and the right person be appointed. For we ask this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
