Choral Pilgrimage Comes to Winchester

This summer 37 singers from Exeter Philharmonic Choir will walk part of the St James’ Way from Upper Wield to St Cross, Winchester. Organised over a long weekend 31 July -3 August the ‘Pilgrims’ Chorus’ will pause their walk to give concerts at churches along the way, amongst which will be  St John’s, Itchen Abbas on Friday, 1st August from 6 to 7pm. The singers perform a varied repertoire under the direction of music director, Stephen Tanner who has a long and distinguished musical career as a choral conductor, organist and composer. As Stephen says, a pilgrimage is a journey and the programme is a musical journey through sacred and secular music across the last 500 years from Luis de Victoria to Holst and Parry, including contemporary African American Spirituals and folk music.
