Martyr Worthy Lectures

Firstly, we would like to thank everyone who has so kindly supported the lecture Series thus far. Your support is hugely appreciated, and we hope that by the end of the Series to have raised a good sum for the Parish of the Itchen Valley.

Following the great success of the first three talks in the Martyr Worthy Lecture Series 2025/26 the Series draws to a close with one further lecture.  Andrew Baines, Executive Director of Museum Operations at the National Museum of the Royal Navy, will be talking on HMS VICTORY – 200 years of Reconstruction, Restoration, and Conservation, for which he is the Project Director, on Friday 27th February 2026. He will explore the history of efforts to preserve HMS Victory and provide an overview of the latest 10 year, £45 million project to preserve the ship for the next fifty years.

Tickets cost £25.  The talks will be held at Itchen Abbas & Avington Village Hall, SO21 1BQ.  Doors open at 6.30pm

Do please come and kindly support the Series – I am sure it will be a fascinating evening. Gilly Greenwood

Lent Lunches

Lent lunches were started in the 1990s by the late Juliet Burnand, and the non denominational tradition has been carried on ever since. They are hosted in private homes, offering a simple lunch of soup, bread and cheese. Everyone local, young and old, are welcome and there is an opportunity to donate to a charity: this year the collection is for the  Winchester Hospice.
