Martyr Worthy Lectures 2025/26
The Martyr Worthy Lecture Series 2025/26 drew to a close on 27th February. We have been very fortunate in having four wonderful lectures from four very accomplished speakers who fascinated us with a variety of differing topics from the fall of Margaret Thatcher, via tales of human space travel, a journey round our Island edge and culminating in the reconstruction, restoration and conservation of HMS Victory over 200 years. Delicious canapés and good chat added to the overall party atmosphere. These evenings could not have come about without the help of so many willing volunteers, the wonderful organising committee and most of all, to all those who so kindly bought tickets and supported the Series. This comes by way of the most ENORMOUS thank you all round and as a result of everyone’s great support and generosity I am delighted to report that we have raised £10,000 for the Parish of the Itchen Valley. A fantastic result. Gilly Greenwood
Cameo
Cameo enjoyed a lovely visit from Itchen Abbas Primary School this week with a sneak preview of some of their Easter songs they have been practicing for the Easter service at St John’s next week. This is always such a happy event enjoyed by young and old alike.
Lent Lunches
Lent lunches were started in the 1990s by the late Juliet Burnand, and the non-denominational tradition has been carried on ever since. They are hosted in private homes, offering a simple lunch of soup, bread and cheese. Everyone local, young and old, are welcome and there is an opportunity to donate to a charity: this year the collection is for the Winchester Hospice.
Judith Mezger and Verity Coleman
Limited parking is available at Hornton Cottage (where the lunch will be held) and at the bottom of Church Lane. More parking is available at Martyr Worthy Manor – the drive gates at the top of Church Lane will be open for easy access.

If you are not currently on the Church Electoral Roll and would like to be please complete this form and return it to Beccy at Itchen Abbas Church by the Wednesday 15 April which is the closing date.
Annual District Church Meetings
It is the time of year when each church holds their ADCMs prior to the Parish APCM (Annual Parochial Church Meeting) which will this year be held on Thursday 30 April at 7.30pm in St John’s Church, Itchen Abbas. Drinks and nibbles will precede the meeting from 6.30pm – this is always a good time to catch up with friends – please put this date in your diaries as everyone is welcome to attend.
Easton’s meeting will be held at 11.15am (after 10am service) on Sunday 29th March at St Mary’s.
