Church Matters – Sunday 9 November

Remembrance Sunday

As in previous years we will be having Acts of Remembrance at all our Village War Memorials. These will take place at 10am in Easton, Itchen Abbas and Martyr Worthy and at 10.40am at Avington, to be followed by the Royal British Legion Remembrance Service at St Mary’s, Avington afterwards. Parking will be available at Avington Park and will be signposted from the Church.

There will be coffee and a children’s activities at St John’s, Itchen Abbas, after the Act of Remembrance – everyone is welcome.

There will be no Communion service in the Valley on Remembrance Sunday but if you would like to attend Holy Communion nearby, these are the details for such services at the Cathedral and for the Arle Valley.

Sheep

You may remember in previous years a group of very lovely helpers have made flocks of sheep that we have given out with invitations to our Crib Service. Children have brought these along to the service and they have been placed around the stable in our nativity scene during the service. This year we have decided to produce kits so that the children can make their own sheep.

We have planned a working party to produce these kits at 10.30am on Thursday 13^th November at St John’s. If you would like to join us for a coffee, chat and cutting party please come along (with your scissors).

If you would like to contribute to the cost of producing these kits, please drop a donation to Beccy (in an envelope marked as ‘sheep’).

Christmas Eve ‘Midnight’ Communion

Our usual network of organists are all unavailable to play for this service (which starts at 11pm) this year, so we are looking for a keyboard player to play the organ (or keyboard) at St John’s Church, Itchen Abbas. It will all be well known carols and there is a fee payable. Please email Beccy on admin@itchenvalleychurches.org if you, or someone you know, can help.
