Lights Out – a lovely reflective service

68 people attended the Lights Out Service led by Jan Brookshaw on Monday 4th August.  A superb team of readers read appropriate poems and scripture readings and these were interspersed with music from CDs expertly manipulated by Vernon.  Little by little the lights were skillfully dimmed by Patrick until only the special memorial candle was left burning.  That too was extinguished representing the lights going out all over Europe so the final reading took place in near darkness.   Everyone left with a candle to continue the memorial at home for the key hour leading up to 11pm when the country became at war, 100 years ago.
