Lectio Divina – an Ecumenical Service for Lent in the Itchen Valley
Discover the rich tradition of Lectio Divina (“divine reading”) with Fr Mark Hogan and Revd Alex Pease tonight, on Zoom (please book with Beccy Clark on admin@itchenvalleychurches.org if you would like to attend).
This method of prayer goes back to the early monastic tradition and can be prayed either in groups or on one’s own. It is a way of listening to the Word of God, inviting the Holy Spirit to deepen our awareness of God speaking to us through Scripture. We will have the opportunity to learn a little about this style of prayer, as well as the opportunity to experience this prayer for ourselves.
Timetable:
7:45pm – welcome and introduction (Revd Alex)
7:50pm – short background to Lectio Divina (Fr Mark)
8pm – Lectio I – Ephesians 2:4-10 (Fr Mark)
8:15pm – facilitated feedback (Revd Alex): “Would anyone like to share what they believe God was saying to them personally through this passage?”
8:25pm – Lectio II – Luke 2:41-51a (Fr Mark)
8:40pm – Final thank yous and blessing (Revd Alex)
