As some of you will know a few of us in Martyr Worthy have started a community cafe in the Village Hall. It began as a pop-up cafe to encourage everyone in the village to gather together after lockdown to connect and reconnect. Since then we have tried to open the cafe twice a month and it has proved to be a hit!
The cafe is purely not-for-profit and not for fundraising, we just want it to be somewhere for people to meet and so we run it at cost. We offer all the frothy coffees – cappuccinos, lattes, flat whites, cafetieres as well as instant coffee and hot chocolate and all the kinds of teas imaginable – in pretty china cups and mugs. These can be enjoyed with a choice of delicious homemade cakes or savoury scones and for those hot days we have six flavours of Jude’s Ice-cream, and their Fruit and Veg Lollies, and cold milkshake varieties.
All the Waymakers (baristas) and Waybakers (cake makers) are volunteers and so to manage the increase in numbers visiting the cafe we are taking an organic approach to our marketing. You are the first to be told about the cafe beyond Martyr Worthy as we count you all as our friends and neighbours too!
We do hope you will come and give it a try and we’ll look forward to giving you a warm welcome when we see you. The next one is THIS FRIDAY 24TH SEPTEMBER, 10.30am-12.30pm (and after that 1st and 15th October).
May the sunshine continue!
