Last Sunday

Fresh perspective on Jesus?

One of the best ways to get a fresh perspective on Jesus’ life and work is to note what the Gospel writers said about his relationship with Jerusalem’s Temple. So I hope you might find the recording of Sunday morning’s sermon at Martyr Worthy (based on the readings set for the day of Christ’s being presented in the Temple) to be stimulating—there’s always more we can learn about Jesus!

if you are unable to see the link above, the recording can be found on the Sermons page of our website here.

Salt and Light

Meanwhile, at Café Church in the afternoon, thanks to the creativity of James and Verity Greig, the fifty of us gathered in Itchen Abbas Village Hall were all made to think about what Jesus meant when he called us be the ‘salt of the earth’ (Matt. 5:13).

In fact, something of a ‘production line’ got underway at the craft table with both adults and children making bath salts for friends and family—by combining Epsom Salts with various combination of Himalayan Pink Salts, flower petals and essential oils. And the youngest children did not miss out—being able to make ‘memory stones’ out of salt dough!

With some words from Theo about the work done by him and others in our church family on the weekend streets of Winchester as ‘Street Pastors’, we all got the message: Jesus wants us to be salty! And, as James said, since only a tiny amount of salt can enhance a meal’s flavouring, what it takes to make another person’ day might be as simple as saying only a few kind words…

So, a big ‘Thank You’ to all those who helped in any way—in setting up or clearing away, by providing plates of lovely food, or helping in the kitchen, by leading us in worship of reflection on God’s Word—to make this such a special time of being Church Family Together!

COMING UP

Tomorrow, please do join us at Wednesday Night Worship (from 7.45pm) in St John’s, Itchen Abbas.

And, next Sunday (9 February), please note that, because I am away, there is regrettably NO 10.00am service. Instead we are grateful to Mary Copping (from St Paul’s, Winchester) who is able to lead our 08.30am BCP Communion service at St Swithun’s, Martyr Worthy; and to Tim Clapp and Kate Mezger who are leading a time of Valley Praise from 4.00pm in St Mary’s, Easton.
