Walk of Hope

11th July – 2nd August 2020

You are invited to join us as we try to walk as much of the Itchen Valley Parish as we are able during the three-week period from Saturday 11th July to Sunday 2nd August.

Why?

For centuries pilgrims walked from Canterbury to Winchester and on to Salisbury, praying as they walked, so we are going to follow in their footsteps. This walk will be a time to switch off from the rest of life and tune into the landscape around us; a time to engage all our senses as we take in the beauty of this wonderful part of the South Downs and celebrate its gift to us during the coronavirus lockdown. As we walk we might like to respond to what we see around us by dreaming big dreams, articulating our hopes for the land and the people in it, or praying – whichever way we like to express ourselves.

Who?

The walk is for everyone, young and old, on your own or with family or friends, wet weather or dry, as long or as short as you want, on one occasion or over several days or weeks. For some it might mean taking a few steps in your garden, for others exploring the furthest outposts of the Parish and discovering parts you haven’t walked before.

How?

If you would like to take part in the walk here are some links which give more details, including:

The Prize!

The finale of the walk will be on Sunday 2nd August when those who have sent in their walk details will be able to collect a free Jude’s ice-cream from St Swithun’s Church, Martyr Worthy between 3-4.30pm.  When you send in details of where you have walked to Beccy, please also let her know if you will want an ice-cream and also whether you will be able to walk to St Swithun’s Church or will need to park a car.

The shaded areas on the map below show which areas of the Parish have already been walked, this will be updated daily as walks are sent through to Beccy.
