Glynde Easton 24th May 2014

What an amazing evening it was!  Despite the inclement weather which prevented us from being able to listen to the Guildhall Singers in the garden of Dymoke House, Easton as we would have hoped, we were treated to a spectacular and moving programme of songs from the Singers who come from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama Guildhall School of Music and Drama led by their pianist Linnhe Robertson and director Simon Cole.  We moved from Verdi a quartet from Rigoletto, through Purcell – Dido’s Lament to nightingales singing in Berkeley Square and undoubtedly we will remember it well (Lerner and Loewe from Gigi).  Offenbach, Lehar and Donizetti followed.  The volume and clarity of the voices were simply superb in the good acoustics of St Mary’s Church Easton.  As our hosts Frits and Sara Janssen pointed out at the beginning of the evening – we were wise to pay close attention to these wonderful young singers as they surprised and thrilled us both by their singing and their acting – we will undoubtedly see them rise to international fame.  Thank you to Frits and Sara for organising such a fantastic event.

The singers: Sopranos: Christina Marcenkus, Lorena Paz, Eliza Safjan, Oksana Sliubyk, Bryony Soothill, and Rachel Woseley Mezzos: Jessica Dandy, Joanne Evans, Claire Bournez, Tenors: Dominic Felix, Gethin Lewis Baritones/Basses: Johannes Kammler, Matthew Palmer and Jevan McAuley
