Itchen Abbas Primary School Harvest Festival Service

Well it all went with a bang.

The theme of the service was ‘Everything we need comes from God’.  KS 1 sang Cauliflowers Fluffy beautifully and KS2 sang Harvest Song.

We had three wonderful (but short) readings from Years 5 and 6 and then we had the drama ‘the Story of the Slice’ – how a slice of bread gets to be in your parents toaster.  In this drama we covered the whole history from the beginning of time with Big Bang when God created the world and the universe (and we did have quite a big bang) and then (with actors from Year 5 and 6) the story went from the farmer sowing the seeds to harvesting the grain (entirely dependent upon God providing the rain and sunshine so that the wheat grows), to the miller making the flour, to the baker baking the dough, to the shopkeeper slicing the bread and putting on the shelf for the parent to buy and put in the toaster for breakfast.  So we learned about God creating and sustaining the world.

Then a totally brilliant moment as all the children brought up their harvest goods which will be passed on to the Food Bank in Winchester.

We concluded with Harvest Samba and some prayers.

A memorable service for us all!
