We look forward to two very special, but different services in the Itchen Valley this coming Sunday:
- 10.00am Parish Communion (Epiphany Season) when we are honoured to have Bishop Henry Scriven (see below) as our guest preacher.
- 6.00pm An ecumenical service (Taizé-style) led by Gerry Stacey.
Please register for either service, by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
Some further information about Bishop Henry.
Henry Scriven has been married to Catherine for 46 years and they have two married children who live in the USA and Indonesia. Henry was ordained in 1975 and served in a curacy in London, before they went to Northern Argentina with the South American Mission Society.
Leaving in 1982 with the Falklands War the family moved to Little Rock, Arkansas, where Catherine’s mother was living. Then they moved to Salamanca, Spain, with SAMS and worked with the Spanish Anglican Church both there and in Madrid.
From 1990 to 1995 Henry was Chaplain of St George’s, Madrid. He was then asked to be Suffragan Bishop in Europe, based in London but travelling round the 300+ churches in 40+ countries. In 2002 they moved to Pittsburgh where Henry was Assistant Bishop until 2008 when the diocese voted to leave the Episcopal Church and Henry was appointed Latin America Director for CMS. He oversaw the merger of SAMS and CMS, based in Oxford.
Bishop Henry retired in 2017. He and Catherine live in Abingdon where he is Honorary Assistant Bishop in both the dioceses of Oxford and Winchester as well as (since 2019) General Secretary of the Evangelical Fellowship in the Anglican Communion.
